Day 61: Slow Fade

“It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid when you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day.”
-Slow Fade, by Casting Crowns
Pray: that God would reveal to you where you have been making compromises and opening the way for a slow fade.
Read: 2 Samuel 11
Applications: I know this passage is pretty commonly referenced/discussed/studied, etc., but I think it’s always a good reminder of how easily one seemingly small bad decision can lead to another, and then suddenly we’re in a really bad spot. In the story, David was, in a way, setting himself up for trouble simply by staying home in Jerusalem, even though he should have gone out to battle since he was the king. He then allowed himself to be consumed by lust and jealousy, and eventually he ended up murdering one of his important military men in order to try and cover up his sins. Sounds like a pretty terrible chain of events–and this was the man whom God described as a man after His own heart! It just goes to show that none of us–not even one–is immune from temptations to sin. As long as we’re on this earth, our flesh will be battling against our spirit. We need to make war on our sin! No more complacency or compromises with darkness. Don’t give in or let it overtake you, for He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world. Always.
Pray: for God to help you say no to ungodly thoughts, words, and actions, and to be strong in the strength of His might as you choose the righteousness of God over the momentary pleasures of sin
