Being Batteries for People’s Flashlights
Wherever you are and whoever you are, you have an influence on people around you. You may not even know it, but simple actions can make a big difference. Maybe it’s giving an encouraging message to someone, or maybe it’s just simply asking someone how his or her day has been. These “little” actions allow you to be a light of the world.
Pray: to God for clarity and energy. We often find prayer like a habit or an item on a to do list. But, it should be a privilege to pray to God and an honor just to have a conversation with him. People in other countries can be persecuted for just praying while we take it for granted.
Read Phillipians 2:12-18
Close your eyes. The setting is Paul writing a letter to the Philippians in prison. That is dedication right there. He tells the Philippians in verse 13 that actions alone do not please God. If your mindset is not in the right place and you’re doing good deeds just because you have to, then it’s pointless. In verses 14 and 15, Paul says that we should do things without complaining and stay pure in the midst of this generation full of sin. When I read this, I was like how in the world are we supposed to do that?!? I know for me, I am so easily influenced by sin and am bound to screw up in the future. But Paul answers this in the following verses saying that if we cling to God’s word and just live by it, then we can be lights of the world. Does this mean study the Bible every waking moment and memorizing from spine to spine? I don’t think so. The Bible is our foundation and with a strong base, then we can stand strong and be role models for those around us.
Now you have to ask yourself a very important question. Do you want to blend in with our corrupt generation or do you want to stand out and be a light of the world? I know this sounds like scaring people into Christianity, but it’s definitely the truth. This is a thing you need to ask God so take a moment and ask God to lead you in the direction he wants you to.
