Day 5 – Do you know who you are? – King David

Good morning! What’s your racial heritage? what makes you tick? Are you good at school? Are you funny? If I were stranded in the Nile, would I want to be stuck with you or the crocodile hunter? There are certain characteristics that define each of us. Among these, we might be most remembered by our race, religion, personality, or abilities. Now think about your best friend. What is the first characteristic you would associate with him/her? What’s the first characteristic that he/she would associate with you? What’s the first thing that God would say about you?

Pray: Thank God for the being he has made you. You are made special and perfect in His image; praise Him for his creation inside of you and outside.

Read: Psalm 139:13-16 and 23-24

Questions: What do you believe about God? List the first 3 things that come to mind when you think about God (for example, big, loving, all-knowing, mysterious, imaginary, etc.)

Do you experience God every day? Describe experiences you’ve had with God.

What attitude(s) does David have in verses 23-24

Application: God knows you better than you know yourself. He knows your actions and your thoughts. But that’s not to be taken in a negative way because God views you as sacred (Psalm 139:14-16, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Ephesians 2:10). If you read the passage carefully, you will understand exactly how every bit of you – every cell every piece of DNA. There’s a term for this adoration: love. God loves you. But a genuine experience of this love won’t come until you have the attitude of Psalm 139:23-24. Just read those two verses again. David experienced God. You have to understand something about David – He betrayed God many times during his life. So, he asks God to examine his life, reveal his mess-ups, and help him make things right. King David knew that experiencing eternal life in the here-and-now was the most important thing in his life!

Pray: Let God overtake your soul. Let Him pour until every part, cell, section, subset, RNA molecule, DNA molecule of your body. Let Him love you and ask Him to show that love to you.
